PSDTUTS have a great\u00a0competition on until the end of December 2008\u00a0for\u00a0creating a movie poster design\u00a0for a fictional film they are calling &#8220;New Dawn&#8221;. (I have since updated the design below and created <a href=\"https:\/\/simoncpage.co.uk\/blog\/2008\/12\/26\/more-creative-movie-poster-designs\/\" target=\"_self\">other design<\/a>)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/psdtuts.com\/articles\/contests\/psdtuts-new-dawn-movie-poster-design-contest\/\" target=\"_blank\">PSDTUT Movie poster design website <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/52128710@N00\/3118800584\/\" target=\"_blank\">Flickr New Dawn Gallery<\/a> (all designs entered are in the PSDTUTS group under tag pstnewdawn)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>My Hollywood Film Pitch<\/h2>\n<p>My Interpretation for this first design (I think I will end up doing another couple) is that the &#8220;mysterious force&#8221; is an alien microscopic germ that has been accidentally released by the government. This germ is deadly and pretty much it seems an unstoppable force if allowed to spread. Since this germ has been travelling around the Earth, infecting people and then killing them, when it moves to it&#8217;s next host it does so in a mysterious fog like dust &#8211; which eventually covers the entire planet. Many cities have been completely abandoned and then flattened by nuclear weapons in a last ditch attempt of destroying this alien germ.<\/p>\n<p>(When you see a film like this at the cinema &#8211; remember where you heard it first!).<\/p>\n<h2>Creative design elements<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>I have a used a couple images from <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/istockphoto.com\/index.php?refnum=simoncpage\" target=\"_blank\">iStockphoto<\/a> for the fog and gas mask<\/li>\n<li>The background images for the 2 cityscapes are from flickr &#8211; <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/gnackgnackgnack\/2169167666\/\" target=\"_blank\">image 1<\/a> | <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/30612609@N00\/415560663\" target=\"_blank\">image 2<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The fonts I have used are: <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.identifont.com\/show?2J2\" target=\"_blank\">Trajan Pro<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tiro.com\/Plantagenet\/plantagenet_index3.html\" target=\"_blank\">Plantagenet Cherokee<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The credit section I used from a <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tutzor.com\/index.php\/2008\/08\/designing-a-war-movie-poster\/\" target=\"_blank\">tutzor Photoshop tutorial<\/a> with a PSD that you can download<\/li>\n<li>Tools used &#8211; Illustrator and Photoshop<\/li>\n<li>I also found this awesome credit style font &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/simoncpage.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/steeltongs_regular.zip\" target=\"_blank\">Steeltongs font<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Original Concept<\/h2>\n<p>Here is my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/52128710@N00\/3118800584\/\" target=\"_blank\">original piece<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/simoncpage.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/new-dawn-movie-poster-design1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1160\" title=\"new-dawn-movie-poster-design1\" src=\"https:\/\/simoncpage.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/new-dawn-movie-poster-design1-448x634.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"634\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Concept Variations<\/h2>\n<p>I did some experimenting with cityscape views in the background and so below here are 2 variation of that initial idea &#8211; one subtle \/ one not so subtle.
